Economic factors have solidified as the main reason for this decline, according to a study by the Department of Public Opinion of the Inter-American Open University (UAI). According to information from the Argentine News Agency (NA), in the survey—conducted annually since 2018—the most relevant data is the increase in the refusal to travel and the shortening of the rest period.
The Numbers of the Retreat
- Travel Intention: 57% of respondents said they will not go on vacation, a 7% increase in refusal compared to the 2025 measurement.
- Economic Motive: Of those who will not travel, 65.5% mentioned economic reasons as the cause of cancellation.
- Duration of Rest: The trend of shortening the rest period is prevailing. In previous years, these numbers were reversed.
Chosen Destinations
Of those who confirmed they will take vacations in 2026 (25.5%), the preference for national destinations remained:
- Local Destinations: 67.3% chose destinations within the country. One-week getaways received 30.1% of the votes, while the two-week period fell to 27.4%. The Atlantic Coast concentrated 60.3% of preferences.
- Foreign Travel: 32.7% stated they would travel abroad, a 5.6% decrease from the previous survey.
- Brazil at the Head: Brazil led foreign travel with 39.2% of the choices.
Regarding planning, 40.2% of travelers will use savings to finance their vacation, and the majority anticipate spending more than last year (51.5%).
